Scientists develop ‘bullet proof’ graphene.
Australian researchers have created one of the toughest fibres to date, using a graphene composite.
Previous efforts in this field had been focusing on carbon nanotubes alone, but the team found that a 50/50 mixture of carbon nanotubes and graphene created an even stronger material. By wet-spinning the material into fibres, the composite material can be easily and cheaply created, and the process can readily be up-scaled to larger quantities.
The material is stronger than spider silk and kevlar, and could find uses in bullet-proof vests and advanced composite materials.
